We’re planning on having music, food and booths for everyone to enjoy during and after the race.
August 1st, 2009 - 8am-11am
The Grange pool in The Meadows,
Castle Rock, CO
Ages 6-8:
25 yard swim
2 mile bike
1/2 mile run
Ages 9-11:
50 yard swim
4 mile bike
1 mile run
Ages 12-14:
200 yard swim
8 mile bike
2 mile run
We will finish the race for each age group before we start the next age group so if you have multiple children racing in various age groups, you will be able to see each of them race. This also allows for us to re-align our volunteers for the different distances. If you would like to volunteer for an age group that you don’t have anyone racing in, we would be quite appreciative! Please just email info@fallfrenzy.com for more information.

The athletes will start with the swim; see above for the distances. Please note that each racer needs to be able to swim the age appropriate distance without any assistance. Swimmers are allowed to stop at the ends of the pool if they need to. The 6-8 year olds will start at the shallow end of the pool and 1 parent will be allowed to help them out at the other end. All swimmers will be exiting at the opposite end of the pool from where they start.
We will have the racing area clearly marked and have volunteers directing the kids to the bike course. We will have cones separating the kids from street traffic and police officers wherever the kids have to cross the road. Safety is of the utmost importance to insure a great race.
Ages 6-8: (2 mile bike) The younger kids will take a right (north) when leaving the transition area onto Meadows Boulevard 1 mile to the turn around which will be clearly marked, then back the same route to the transition area.
Ages 9-11: (4 mile bike) This age group will take a right (north) when leaving the transition area onto Meadows Boulevard for a 4 mile loop, then back to the transition area staying in the right coned off lane. There is part of the route where the kids will ride on a service road where there is no car traffic. (2009 race map)
Ages 12-14: (8 mile bike) Same course as the 9-11 year olds, but you will go around the loop 2 times, then back to the transition area. (2009 race map)
The run will be on the concrete trail behind the pool. There will be a turn-around point for each distance then racers will head back towards the pool to the finish line.
The transition area will open at 6:30a.m. We need all kids to have their bikes racked by 7:30 a.m. inside the transition area. We will have it fenced off and clearly marked where the kids enter and exit for each leg of the race. Helmets must be strapped onto the racer’s head before exiting and upon re-entering the transition area.
Parents are not allowed in the transition area due to USAT rules. Please be sure to have your kids practice setting up their bike, their small towel next to their rear tire with their shoes, helmet and whatever else they might need for the race so they know what to do on race day. The transition is part of a triathlon and the time counts just as much as the other parts of the race. We encourage you to have your kids practice getting out of a pool, running while dripping wet to their stuff, getting their shoes, helmet…on and then riding their bike wet. This will help the younger ones and first-timers feel more comfortable on race day!

Please remember that this is a race for the kids, for them to have fun and experience a new sport. Parents are not allowed to push their children on their bikes or assist them during the race. If a parent is behaving in an unsportsmanlike manor, there is potential for your child to be disqualified. We have tried to be more relaxed about this in previous years, but some parents have been so competitive that they have pushed other kids’ bikes out of the way, carried bikes or have yelled at our wonderful volunteers for trying to keep this a race for the kids!!! Let’s all put on our smiles and cheer for our kids that have trained for this event and make it a fun memory for all of them!
The Fall Frenzy Kids’ tri will be held at The Grange Pool which is in The Meadows in Castle Rock. Take I-25 to the Meadows Parkway exit and go west until you see the silver silo which is where the pool is located. You will not take any turns to get to the race site.
The packet pick-up will be Friday, July 31st 25th from 12:00 to 7:00pm at The Grange with a pre-race meeting at 4:30. There will also be a pre-race meeting on race morning at 7:45 a.m. We encourage all participants (and parent) to attend one of the meetings, especially if this is the participant’s first triathlon. We will go over the course, rules and answer any questions you may have. We will also be announcing any last minute changes.
*Race waivers will need to be signed by parents which will be done at packet pick-up. Each child will need to have their own parents sign their waivers. If the waivers are not signed, the child will not be allowed to race.
Each racer will be given a timing chip on race morning just before they enter the pool to race, not at packet pick-up. We hope this will alleviate any lost or forgotten chips on race morning! So, each racer will be given their chip and will have help putting it around their ankle just a few moments before they get into the water to start their race. We will have volunteers helping with this. Parents keep in mind that you will need to let you kids get into line for this and then go to another area of the pool where the kids are not lining up. If we have all parents in the area where we are handing out chips, it will be too congested to start the race!
We need many volunteers to make this a fun, safe race. There are many different areas we need help with. You will receive a Fall Frenzy Volunteer t-shirt and lunch. If you or any of your friends would like to volunteer, please email nroderick@mho.com.
